This new year, tourism in Himachal Pradesh has shown rise beyond expectations. More than 10,000 honeymoon couples are booked to visit Himachal pradesh between January 15th to February 28. Almost 5000 honeymoon booking has been done, as per local news reports. Destinations receiving maximum footfall are Manali, Shimla, Dharamshala and Kasauli.
Local shop owners believe that the recent boom in travel has come in the aftermath of lockdown which was imposed right after the end of last year’s wedding season. With vaccination process now starting in the whole country, many couples especially from North India have finally got the chance to execute their plans of visiting Himachal Pradesh.
To attract newly wed couples, Travel agents have different type of packages ranging from Rs 10,000 to 50,000 which includes room, transportation, meals and sightseeing. Some of the packages also includes candle light dinners, bedroom with flower decorations and honeymoon cake.
According to travel agents most of the visitors are from Delhi, Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat, Maharastra, Kerala and Bengaluru. After the recent snowfall in Himachal Pradesh tourists are coming in huge numbers to enjoy snow with their family and friends.
Many states have not resumed their Volvo Bus services, travel agents believe the number of tourists will rise even more if bus service get reinstated. However, curbing crowds remains a challenge for the district administrations and police.
Hospitality industry is the backbone of Himachal Pradesh’s economy and the lockdown restrictions in have hit this industry hard. Now, when tourism is getting normal in the state, every section of the industry, including hotels, taxi drivers, tourist guides, dhabas and small restaurants are pinning their hopes on revival.
